KWL (Levels 1 and 3)

Add your thoughts using the KWL approach. Thinking about Game Mechanics, Games-Based Learning or gamification.....

K = What do you know?
I used games in my lesson to make learning fun without knowing the whole concept of game based learning. I understand using games in a classroom can make learning more fun and can increase student engagement
W = What do you want to learn?
How to add an element of gaming in my classroom as a maths teacher, perhaps specific methods as to how to incorporate gaming in my lessons,
L = What have you learned? (we'll do this last one later)
I have learned the components of game based learning and what is needed to make it successful.

Reflection

Add your thoughts here and also add to the KWL notes above, where appropriate.

Level 2

Where do I start?

Identify some learning outcomes that you will be visiting with your students in upcoming lessons. Note down here some ways they might benefit from gamification.
I will start by selecting a topic, such as algebra, and use games mechanics to get them engaged. I will then design a game with various levels, avatars and badges that would take them step by step from the basic principle of algebra to the most complex ones. Some learning outcomes will range from simplifying expressions, performing algebraic operations, solve equations.
Observe and reflect
After playing a game what are your personal thoughts about the design and elements involved and how any of these could help you in thinking about doing the same in a learning activity?
The game must have an element of challenge, a way of moving up levels wi rewards so I can improve.

Level 3

Premiers Reading Challenge Reflection

Write your thoughts here and or print a rubric and circle the appropriate areas you notice as you review the rules of this gamified experience. (feel free to scan or photograph and upload your rubic to this page.)
Easy and serious fun at the same time. Students are working towards a specific goal and there are rewards at the end. Also the more you play the better the rewards ( Gold certificate etc).

Zombie Learning Reflection

Write your thoughts here and or print a rubric and circle the appropriate areas you notice as you review the rules of this gamified experience.
(feel free to scan or photograph and upload your rubic to this page.)
Interesting creative and fun game that can be applied in a classroom.students are challenged to think critically in an interactive way thru technology. it seems to work with geography. I think it would be a challenge to have the same level of engagement with mathematics. But I will certainly try.

You Try/ A final reflection

Add your finished plan here as an upload file or as text you have cut and pasted into the wiki. We would love to give you feedback to help you get started. (remember it does not need be perfect, it is a first attempt). Alternatively it can be emailed to us instead.
